An interval is simply the distance between two notes — and once you can hear them, you can hear everything. Explore every interval with a familiar-tune hint, then switch to Ear training and test whether you can name them by sound alone.
Why intervals matter
- They're the bricks of melody. Every tune is just a chain of intervals, one note to the next.
- Naming trains your ear. Once you know the sound of a perfect 5th or a minor 3rd, you can pick out and write down what you hear.
- Consonant or dissonant? Smooth intervals feel restful, clashing ones feel tense — that push and pull is what makes music move.
- Steal a leap. Borrow the opening interval of a song you love and build a new melody from it.
