Metronome
A steady beat is the foundation everything else sits on. Set a tempo and a time signature, press start, and play or compose along — the first beat of every bar is accented so you always know where you are. Not sure how fast? Tap the beat in and it will work out the tempo for you.
Making the most of it
- Start slow. Practise a tricky passage at a tempo you can play perfectly, then nudge it up a few BPM at a time.
- Feel the downbeat. The accented first beat is your anchor — count "1-2-3-4" along with it.
- Build your own metre. Try an unusual time signature like 5/4 or 7/8 and feel how differently it moves.
- Compose to a click. Writing with the metronome running keeps your ideas honest about rhythm and length.
