Cadence Ear-Trainer
A cadence is the pair of chords that ends a musical phrase — music's punctuation. Press play: you'll hear the key's “home” chord first to get your bearings, then the two chords of the cadence. Name which cadence you heard. It's in C major unless you switch on Advanced (a random key each time).
What is a cadence?
- Perfect (V–I). The strongest “the end” sound — a full stop.
- Plagal (IV–I). The gentle “A–men” ending of many hymns.
- Imperfect (ends on V). Sounds unfinished — a comma, not a full stop.
- Interrupted (V–vi). Sets up the perfect ending… then surprises you.
